Small Animal Surgery

The Small Animal Surgical Section is involved with the provision of referral surgical services for our referring veterinarians, primary surgical services for our local clients, and a large and varied case-load for student instruction.

About Us:

The Section performs a wide range of soft-tissue, orthopaedic and neurological surgery. The Section has the equipment and expertise to perform open thoracic and cardiac surgery, total hip replacement and complex fracture repair, and complex neurological procedures such as spinal decompressions after disc prolapse in dogs. We provide a 24 hour, 7 day a week back-up service to the Animal Emergency Centre and regular co-management of cases with the Small Animal Medical Section.

The Section works closely with the Small Animal Anaesthetic Department, the Central Sterile Supply and the Intensive Care Unit to provide high quality, complete care for our patients.

The Small Animal Surgical Section has a close relationship with our referring veterinarians. We are involved with a regular email-based 'Case of the Month' and regular post-graduate seminar presentations through our uVet Seminar Series.
