General Practice
As your primary care Veterinarian, we are here to meet the needs of you and your pet. We understand that your pet is a family member, and is given the same care and attention we would like our own pets to receive. The General Practice offers personal service, and, as the result of being part of the University of Melbourne Veterinary Hospital, it has the added benefit of referral and emergency services and facilities.
About Us:
We are open 8am to 7pm on Monday to Friday, and 9am to 4pm on Saturdays.
We run strictly by appointments, so always ring before you come down. Emergencies are given priority by our Emergency department.
The University Veterinary Hospital is fully computerised. Each pet has its own comprehensive life long medical record. This ensures that all veterinarians at the Hospital will have full details of your animal's illness, and a complete record of treatments received. Your cat or dog will receive a thorough physical examination at the time of vaccination. Once vaccinated at this Hospital, regular reminders will be sent, so please notify us if you change address!
We have both medical and surgical referral sections on site. There may be times when the Veterinarian in the General Practice feels that it is appropriate that your pet to see a consultant. When this occurs, the consultant will take over you pets care and communicate with you.
We also have veterinarians with a specialist interests in pocket pets.
We are supported by radiology and anaesthesia departments, which have the latest equipment, and specialised personal to look after your pet. The Hospital boasts many of the latest equipment and procedures available to Veterinary surgery and medicine.
In order to keep knowledge and skills up to date, all Veterinarians and Nurses regularly attend continuing education seminars and courses. As we are part of the University we are involved with the training of student Veterinarians. Your first contact may be a student doing the initial check of your pet; please be patient with the students. Thereafter the Veterinarian will attend to your pet.
