Canine Blood Bank
The Canine Blood Bank supplies blood and plasma products to our Hospital and to veterinarians throughout Australia.
About Us:
Our blood and plasma products are used to help save the lives of hundreds of dogs with a wide variety of medical problems, including trauma, autoimmune destruction of red blood cells, poisoning by rat baits and inherited disorders of blood clotting. They are also used in orthopaedic surgery if the patient loses a large amount of blood during an operation.
The Canine Blood Bank has two groups of blood donors. There are 50 resident Greyhounds and a growing number of privately owned pets (at the last count about 150 dogs). The "Back a Blood Hound" program has been launched to find sponsors to assist with the cost of feeding and caring for our resident dogs. (These are all Greyhounds who are retired from racing, mostly because they could not run fast enough!)
