uVet Seminar Series for 2010

Seizuring dogs - presented by Dr Sam Long

When: Tuesday 2nd March 2010

The talk will review what we know of seizures and epilepsy as well as examine the latest approaches to diagnosis and treatment, including novel therapeutic approaches that are appearing on the horizon.

Dr Sam Long is the Senior Lecturer in Neurology. Sam started work at the Veterinary Clinic and Hospital in January 2009. He runs the neurology service which offers investigation and treatment of medical and surgical neurological conditions. Sam is currently the only certified specialist neurologist and neurosurgeon practicing in Victoria. Sam spent seven years in Glasgow completing a residency in Veterinary Neurology and a PhD in canine cancer activity. He was Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania for three years before taking up his current position here at Werribee.

Digital radiology - presented by the Diagnostic Imaging team

When: Tuesday 4th May 2010

Digital radiography is taking off in Victoria, with many practices 'going digital' over the past 18 months. The switch to digital can provide great benefits to veterinary radiography, but the transition process can be stressful, filled with many confusing IT decisions, new terminology, new image artifacts and sometimes disappointing image results. This seminar will cover important points to consider when making purchasing decisions and, for those of you that have already gone digital, will discuss getting the most out of your digital system, optimizing image quality and avoiding artefacts, and some new concepts to help with interpretation of digital radiographic images.

Seminars will also be held on 3rd August & 5th October 2010. Topics and speakers to be advised.

Seminars are offered as continuing education for veterinarians at no cost. Topics have been carefully selected on basis of usefulness to veterinarians in practice, and a short (5 to 10 minute) update on a topic/area from a recent conference attended by uVet staff will also be included in each seminar. While the seminars are free, donations (tax deductible) from attendees towards equipment upgrade in uVet is most welcomed.

For further enquiries, contact Dr Wing Tip Wong on (03) 9731 2000 Monday - Thursday. To book a place, contact Mrs Gerry Hardie on (03) 9731 2000.

All seminars will be held at the Veterinary Clinic & Hospital, the University of Melbourne, 250 Princes Highway, Werribee. Light snacks will be served at 6.30pm, followed by the seminar at 7.00pm.

An archive of past seminars is available.
